What do I do? I live in New Zealand baby!

I work for Made From New Zealand and you can see my profile Jordan Daniel Carter over there too.  The website’s purpose is to promote New Zealand to the world through all digital means we have access to.

We have a great team of people using the latest and greatest tools to get us there.  We have a great knowledge of SEO and a couple of key contacts in that realm.  We are tight with ProjectX Technology and Zoomin who are leading in New Zealand Mapping solutions.

So what does that leave me with?

I (obviously) use Ruby on Rails for all web dev.  We sit on postgres for most of it with one MySql db throw in for good measure.
We run all the latest and greatest to make everything quick as a bean.  Memcached, xapian are key players in the speed domain.

We are located in Silicon Welly, Courtney Place, Wellington, New Zealand!  The capital of New Zealand and the heart of our world.  We are extremely passionate about New Zealand, we want to succeed.

New Zealand is one of the most beautiful lands in the world.  You can snowboard, surf, tramp, hike, camp, ski, drink great wine, swim at amazing beaches, yachting, kayak incredible rivers, sky dive, rock climb, drink 42 below vodka!, film Academy Award winning trilogies all within a couple hundred kilometres from each other.  Where else in the world can you do that?

I think some kiwis have forgotten we live in such a diverse, beautiful, rich country.

Why did I just speel about NZ? Well I have just finished my degree (BInfSci – Comp Sci) and I was planning on leaving NZ for “something better”.  Well lately I have come to the conclusion there is nothing better.  The rat race of London? The pressure of NY?  I can work an incredible job all week, then within a 3 hours drive I can be walking up a track into native forest for the weekend.  Can’t beat that!

That brings me to my leisure activities.  Tramping, gaming, photography.

New Zealand is a great place.  If you are overseas and have some digital pursuits,  I urge you to consider starting your company in New Zealand.  If you live in New Zealand and not feeling it, I urge you to go look outside.  Get on a bus or a train and go somewhere.  Enjoy this place!  New Zealand has a lot to offer you.
